Heart and diabetes care in Mulund and Bhandup
Dr Manoj Gerela, cardiologist and diabetologist, has treated heart disease and diabetes in this neighbourhood since 2001. He consults at the Mulund East clinic, at Bhandup West and at Sigma Hospital & ICCU in Mulund West. Because the cardiac diagnostics suite and the pathology lab are on the premises at Mulund East, an ECG, an echo, a treadmill test or an HbA1c can usually be done and read in the same visit as your consultation.

What we treat
Start with the problem you have
Heart disease and diabetes usually arrive together, so they are treated together here. Each card opens a page that explains who it is for and what happens at the visit.
Fitness before surgery
Cardiac fitness assessment and pre-operative clearance when another doctor has asked for it, including ECG and 2D echo, with a written opinion for the surgeon.
Pre-operative checkDiagnostics and pathology
Blood sugar, lipid profile, kidney, liver and thyroid panels, pulmonary function, a sleep study and portable digital X-ray, all in the same building as the consulting room at Mulund East.
What we testHealth check-up packages
Basic, cardiac and diabetes check-ups built around the two things this clinic sees most, with the tests done and read on the premises. Contents are confirmed when you book.

Cardiac and diabetic tests done here
You do not need to go to a separate diagnostic centre and come back with a report. Tests are done at the Mulund East clinic. If you consult at Bhandup West or Mulund West, Dr Manoj will tell you which tests to have and where.
ECG
Standard 12-lead electrocardiogram, done immediately when the consultation calls for it.
2D echo & colour Doppler
Ultrasound imaging of the heart’s chambers, valves and pumping function, with a Doppler flow study.
Treadmill / stress test
Exercise ECG to look for changes that only appear when the heart is working harder.
Stress echo
Echocardiography under stress, where a treadmill test alone is not conclusive.
Holter monitoring
Continuous ECG recording worn at home, for palpitations or rhythm problems that come and go.
Ambulatory blood pressure
Automatic readings through a normal day and night, the reliable way to diagnose hypertension.
Continuous glucose monitoring
A sensor worn for several days that shows what sugar actually does between finger-prick readings.
Diabetic bloodwork
HbA1c, fasting and post-prandial glucose, lipid profile, kidney and thyroid panel, all in-house.
When to come in
If any of these apply, it is worth being checked rather than waiting
- Chest discomfort or breathlessness. Pain, pressure or tightness in the chest, breathlessness on stairs or exertion, or palpitations that you notice.
- Blood pressure or cholesterol. A reading someone told you to get checked, or a prescription you have been on for years without a review.
- New or long-standing diabetes. A high sugar on a routine test, an HbA1c that has crept up, or diabetes you have managed alone for years.
- Family history. A parent or sibling with early heart disease or diabetes is a reason to have a baseline done in your forties, not your sixties.
- Before surgery. Cardiac fitness assessment and pre-operative clearance, including ECG and 2D echo.
- After a cardiac event. Long-term follow-up after angioplasty, bypass or a heart attack, including medication review.
How a visit works
Four steps, usually in one trip
-
Call or walk in
Call the number for the location you want. For a consultation with Dr Manoj it is better to call ahead, it saves you waiting.
-
The consultation
Bring old reports and the medicines you take. Dr Manoj takes a history, examines you and decides which tests, if any, are needed.
-
Tests in the same visit
At Mulund East an ECG, an echo or a blood test is usually done straight away. A treadmill test, Holter or sleep study is booked for a slot.
-
The plan and follow-up
You leave with an explanation, a prescription if one is needed and a date to come back. Long-term follow-up is done here too.
Diabetes and your gums
One clinic, so your dentist and your diabetologist are under the same roof
Gum disease and diabetes affect each other. High blood sugar makes gum infection more likely, and a gum infection can make sugar harder to control. If you have diabetes, a gum check is part of looking after it, not a separate errand.
Dr Ria Gerela’s dental practice is in the same Mulund East clinic. A diabetic patient can have gums checked and cleaned in the same trip as a sugar review, and the two doctors can talk to each other about you without a referral letter.

Who you will see
Heart and diabetes, treated by the same doctor
In clinical practice since 2001, Dr Manoj Gerela treats heart disease and diabetes together, which is how they usually arrive. He completed his post-graduation in cardiology and diabetology at the Asian Heart Institute in Mumbai, and holds a fellowship in 2D echocardiography from the American Society of Echocardiography. He reads his own echoes and treadmill tests, so the person who ordered the test is the person explaining it to you.
