Smile design and teeth whitening in Mulund East
Chipped, stained, uneven or worn front teeth can be improved with laminates and veneers, professional whitening and reshaping. Cosmetic dentistry is one of Dr Ria Gerela’s special interests, and every case is planned so the result looks like your own teeth, only better.
What it is
What smile design means
Smile design is a plan, not a single procedure. Dr Ria looks at the shape, colour, length and alignment of the front teeth, the gum line, and how the teeth show when you talk and smile, then chooses the smallest set of treatments that gets the result.
Whitening lightens the natural tooth. Reshaping smooths a small chip or an uneven edge. Laminates and veneers are thin facings bonded to the front of a tooth to change its colour, shape or size. Sometimes a crown, a small orthodontic correction or gum treatment is part of the plan.
What happens at the visit
Step 1
Consultation and plan
Dr Ria examines the teeth and gums, takes photographs and a digital X-ray where needed, and talks through what bothers you. You leave with a plan and a clear idea of what each step involves.
Step 2
Preparation
Whitening starts after a scaling so the gel works on clean teeth. For veneers, a thin layer of enamel is prepared and an impression is taken. Reshaping is done in the same visit.
Step 3
Fitting and finishing
Veneers are tried in, adjusted and bonded. Whitening is completed over the sessions planned. The final visit checks the bite, the colour match and how the smile looks in conversation.
Sittings and aftercare
How many sittings
Reshaping and whitening are usually done in one or two visits. Veneers and laminates take at least two, one to prepare and one to fit, with the facings made in between. A full smile design that combines treatments is planned as one course, and Dr Ria tells you the number of visits before you start. Fees are confirmed when you book.
Aftercare
- Teeth can feel sensitive for a short while after whitening, and it settles
- Avoid strongly coloured food and drink for the first days after whitening
- Veneers are strong, but not for biting nails, opening packets or crunching ice
- Brush and floss veneers like natural teeth, decay can still start at the edges
- Keep your scaling and check-up visits so the result lasts

Full profile →Questions patients ask
Is whitening safe for my teeth?
Professional whitening done on healthy teeth, after a check and a scaling, lightens the enamel without damaging it. Dr Ria checks for decay, cracked fillings and gum recession first, because those need treating before any whitening.
How long does whitening last?
It varies with what you eat and drink and whether you smoke. Whitened teeth do pick up stain again over time, and a top-up is possible later. Dr Ria will tell you what to expect for your teeth.
Veneer or crown?
A veneer covers only the front face of the tooth and needs very little preparation. A crown covers the whole tooth and is the better choice when the tooth is heavily filled, cracked or root-treated. Dr Ria will show you which applies to each tooth.
